Next.js / Headless

Headless builds you own and outgrow slowly.

Next.js and headless architecture for brands that have outgrown the page-builder ceiling and need a site engineered for speed, scale, and a decade of editing without a rebuild.
Overview
Headless means the front end and the content live apart. We build the interface in Next.js and connect it to whatever CMS or commerce backend fits your team, so editors get a clean, familiar place to work while the public site stays a fast, statically rendered shell. The result loads in milliseconds, ranks well, and never makes a customer wait on a database query to read your homepage.Creative Monk treats the architecture as a long-term decision, not a launch trick. We model your content as structured data, render at the edge, and wire incremental builds so a blog edit ships in seconds without rebuilding the whole site. Components are typed, documented, and reused, which means the second page costs a fraction of the first and your team can extend the system without calling us back. The outcome is a site that compounds. Core Web Vitals stay green as traffic grows, new templates take days instead of sprints, and the codebase is yours to keep, host, and hand to any competent Next.js developer. You stop renting a platform and start owning the engine your growth runs on.
What you get
  • Production Next.js codebase in your Git repository, fully owned and documented
  • Headless CMS or commerce integration with structured content models and editor onboarding
  • Typed, reusable component library with a living Storybook reference
  • Edge-rendered deployment on Vercel or your own infrastructure, with preview environments
  • Core Web Vitals, analytics, and SEO instrumentation wired in from day one
  • Handover kit: architecture notes, runbook, and a recorded walkthrough for your team
Why it works
01

Own the codebase, not a license

You get the full Next.js repo, the content models, and the deployment config. No proprietary lock-in, no per-seat platform fee, no permission needed to hire another developer later.

02

Speed budgeted, not hoped for

We set a performance budget before the first line of code and hold every component to it. Pages ship statically rendered and edge-cached, so green Core Web Vitals are the baseline, not a post-launch scramble.

03

Built to be edited by humans

Content is modelled around how your team actually thinks, with sensible field names and preview-as-you-type. Marketers publish without a ticket, and a structured schema means the site stays consistent as it grows.

How we work
  1. 01

    Architect

We map your content, traffic patterns and editing workflows, then choose the CMS, rendering strategy and hosting that fit. You leave this stage with a clear data model and a performance budget on paper.

  2. 02

    Build the system

We construct a typed component library and the templates that compose it, wired to the headless backend. Each piece is documented in Storybook so the system stays legible long after launch.

  3. 03

    Wire and harden

Content models, preview environments, SEO, analytics and incremental builds get connected and tested. We profile against the budget and fix what is slow before anyone outside sees it.

  4. 04

    Ship and hand over

We deploy to the edge, train your editors, and hand you the repo, runbook and walkthrough. The site is live, fast, and entirely yours to extend from here.

FAQ

Good questions.

  • Do we need a developer on staff to run a headless site?+

No. Day-to-day content lives in the CMS, so your team publishes pages, posts and products without touching code. You only need a developer when you want new templates or features, and the documented codebase means any competent Next.js engineer can pick it up.

  • Can you keep our existing CMS or commerce backend?+

Usually, yes. Next.js connects to most headless CMSs and to Shopify, WooCommerce or a custom API. If your current backend is the bottleneck we will say so plainly, but we will not force a migration you do not need.

  • Is headless overkill for a small site?+

Sometimes it is, and we will tell you. Headless earns its keep when you have real traffic, frequent edits, multiple content types or plans to scale. For a simple brochure site we will often recommend a lighter build instead of selling you complexity you will not use.
